HOW MUCH It takes a lot to maintain a graveyard: propping up moldering walls, making sure the weeds grow to scary heights, dental work for the vampires – not to mention all of the psychiatric bills. Visits to the graveyard are always free, but any contributions you would like to make are greatly appreciated by the denizens.
A Message to Parents

The haunted graveyard can be a scary place. In addition to your standard zombies, ghouls and goblins, there are also foggers, strobe lights and smoke. There may also be small spaces or slightly obstructed pathways which could make passage tricky for those with ambulatory difficulties. Every child is different, and we encourage parents to go through the graveyard first, so that you can judge whether it is appropriate for your child.

These neighbors are enough to make you scream

For the third consecutive year, William and Karla Shelton and their daughters, Samantha, 10, and Alexandra, 9, have converted the garage at their home northeast of Lafayette into a haunted house.

Corpses and cobwebs, skeletons and spooky noises, fog and a body emerging from a grave assaulted the eyes and ears of those who dared to enter the Spooky Shelton Graveyard and Mausoleum on Saturday night.

"It was completely scary," said 8-year-old Omar Abdelaziz of Chicago, the first person to tour the haunted building. "Especially the part when the girl clawed me. Can I go back in?" Read More...

Legend Update

Ever since wraiths and ghouls began using our garage as a gateway in the mortal realms, we’ve been trying to figure out how this all began.

We know that these fields beyond Lafayette have remained undisturbed for generations, until the building of the Bridgemill subdivision. We know about the children going missing… the noises carried by Autumn winds… the strange sights and inexplicable horrors glimpsed through the fog on moonlit nights.

But why? Why do these ghosts and revenants haunt these fields with such single-minded determination? Why here?

So we did some searching, digging deep into the histories, talking to the ancient crones, gazing long into crystal balls. And we discovered something long forgotten.

URGENT MESSAGE

We don’t know what we’ll find this year, but the graveyard has already started to manifest itself. There are pounding noises coming from the garage, and every day a new wall or grave marker appears. Sam took a peek inside yesterday and said she saw strange light emanating from a huge, gaping hole! We all ran to see immediately. Sure enough, there’s something there, deeper than it seems possible. Could it be some sort of rift? Before we could take a closer look, though, a pair of glowing eyes and horrifying faces began rising from the depths, and we got out of there. We’ll have to be extra careful not to fall in while exploring this year. I hope nothing too scary comes out!
